K ration crate used for shipping

€275.00

Wooden K ration crate that used for shipping by PFC Charles F. Chaplin, ASN 35974174, who enlisted on April 25, 1945. Chaplin served with the 3rd Infantry 'Honor Guard' Regiment which was a separate unit during WWII. The regiment arrived in Le Havre, France on March 18, 1945, and was attached to the 106th Infantry Division with the mission of containing the isolated German garrison at St. Nazaire. The regiment moved with the 106th Division into Germany on April 26, 1945 — twelve days before the surrender of Germany — and processed prisoners of war. The regiment was then assigned to duty in the occupation of Germany and was located at Babenhausen. The 3d Infantry was inactivated on 20 November 1946 in Berlin.
The crate was produced by The Hills Bross. Co. and is dated October 1944 on the side. It has been shortened, likely by Chaplin, and was used to ship things home. Unique piece with research potential that is excellent for display. Very good condition.
