Iconic WWII Zippo lighter with black crackle finish as coveted by all GI's. This is the three barrel hinge type which was produced as of 1943. During the war Zippo only produced lighter for the US Army (see photo of advertisement). These were made of steel with a black crackle finish to prevend rust. This finish usually wore off. It has the chimney with 14 holes. Typically the lighter has a rounded top and bottom because of which it can't stand up. The spring works well and the lid closes properly. The markings on the bottom of the case are hard to read because of the rust. The markings on the insert are clear. The case is adorned with brass USMC EGA and Aviator's insignia, a unique and personal touch. The lighter has not been cleaned or checked for functionality. It may function but that is up to the new owner to decide.
Original Zippo lighters have become increasingly difficult to find, especially this nice. One with additional insignia is even rarer. A 'must have' for the WWII US collection. This is an item of the 1944Supply.com shop collection. Very good condition.
