Hawley fibre liner type 2 that features steel A washers and cotton suspension. It would have a fixed leather chinstrap with square slide buckle. It is however broken and only partially present. The liner has a wire buckle headband but no longer a neck strap. The front of the liner has the initials C.H.E. stencilled in black; The same initials are written in pencil under the brim. On the back the name C.H. Ernst is written. The exterior of the liner is stained, there is a small hole present and the brim is cracked. Fibre liners in good shape have become exceedingly difficult to find, in particular the transitional type 3 which has always been the rarest version. This is a nice example with research potential that is perfect for display or to complete a steel shell. Good condition.
