M-1 Helmet, 77th Division. McCord 'fixed bail' M-1 steel shell. The heatstamp is 297C. The helmet has its original 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with brass buckle. The steel has a layer of repaint and the marking of the 77th Division spray painted on with stencil. There are several stress cracks present. The liner is a Westinghouse with green painted steel A washers. It no longer has its leather chinstrap and the neckband has been torn out, leaving the snaps. The liner has a layer of glossy repaint with the 77th Division patch painted on one side and a red triangle with a yellow 6 on the other. All around the baes is a red band. The significance of the triangle with 6 and red band are currently unknown. On the headband the name Gerald McCarthy and number 3670 365 are written. Original unit marked helmets have become exceedingly difficult to find. This is a great example with research potential. It was part of the M-1Helmet.com collection. Very good condition.
